Alexandra Wishart

Paper title: "Understanding Ukrainian cultural activism — the Janus-head of civil society ‘resilience’"

Alexandra Wishart is a PhD candidate in political science at the University of Ottawa, a member of the Chair of Ukrainian Studies, and holder of a Kule Doctoral Scholarship on Contemporary Ukraine. Her doctoral research focuses on cultural production and civic resistance during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Her research interests include political ethnography, political activism, social movements, and post-colonial studies and currently centre on questions related to transnational migration by members of Kyiv’s cultural community. Since 2020, she has worked as assistant director of the Association for the Studies of Nationalities' annual conventions for the Harriman Institute at Columbia University.
