Alexandra Shkandrij

Alexandra Shkandrij is a PhD student in political science at the University of Toronto. Her work examines the intersection of art, conflict, and identity, with a particular focus on Ukraine. Her doctoral research investigates the conditions under which armies loot, destroy, sell, or repurpose tangible cultural property. Alexandra was formerly the curator of exhibitions at the Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre. She serves as the Heritage Sustainability Program director for the Shevchenko Foundation, supporting the promotion of Ukrainian art and culture, and on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Foundation for Ukrainian Studies. Her deep commitment to the Ukrainian Canadian community has included media liaison for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council, organizing cultural programming, and ensuring the Ukrainian Canadian experience is represented at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg.
