Nykkie Lugosi-Schimpf

Nykkie Lugosi-Schimpf (Otipemisiwak) is an associate professor in the Faculty of Native Studies and a long-standing advisory board member of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of Alberta. Nykkie’s work is comparative and examines structural racism and polarization in Canada and Central Eastern Europe in areas of immigration, education, and the criminal justice system, with a focus on urban Indigenous and Romani representation and reclamation. Current research projects include: "Confronting Nationalist Narratives: Educating Newcomers about Indigenous Canada" and "kâmâmawi-kitohcikehk ᑳᒫᒪᐏᑭᑐᐦᒋᑫᕽ: A Cree Approach to Belonging though Making-Music."
