Serhiy Bilenky

Serhiy Bilenky received his Candidate of Sciences degree from the Kyiv Shevchenko National University (1997) and PhD in history from the University of Toronto (2007). He has taught at the University of Toronto, Columbia University, and Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute. Among his monographs are Romantic Nationalism in Eastern Europe: Russian, Polish, and Ukrainian Political Imaginations (2012), Imperial Urbanism in the Borderlands: Kyiv, 1800–1905 (2018), and Laboratory of Modernity: Ukraine between Empire and Nation, 1772–1914 (2023). Bilenky is also the editor of Fashioning Modern Ukraine: Selected Writings of Mykola Kostomarov, Volodymyr Antonovych, and Mykhailo Drahomanov (2014) and editor-in-chief, since 2023, of CIUS's journal East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies.
